Your library needs you - Volunteering at South Craven Community Library
We are always looking for new volunteers to help run the Community Library.
The main area in which volunteers are required is staffing the library during opening hours and all of its associated tasks. These include issuing and discharging books, answering the phone, tidying, helping customers to locate or reserve books and contributing to the welcoming, friendly and helpful atmosphere we aim to provide in the library.
As a volunteer you can choose to be a 'computer-user' volunteer or a 'general duties' helper. Many volunteers start as 'general duties' helpers and learn the computer skills later. There is, however, no obligation to be a computer volunteer if this is not your thing.
We also need help in other areas. There is always the vital fundraising, and we also need people to tell stories, give IT support, make cups of tea and coffee and help with events.
As a volunteer you will receive training from either our more experienced volunteers or from North Yorkshire library staff. You will be introduced to our online booking system on which you can put your name down for the library sessions you wish to do each month. If you get involved in activities with children a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) - formerly CRB - check will be required.
We would be pleased to welcome new Friends of the Library to help support our local Library.
